Ultimatum: Egypt's Military Gives Pols 48 Hours to Solve Crisis

Reuters reports that the Egyptian military has given the country’s politicians 48 hours to find a political solution to the ongoing crisis in that country. The implication is that the military will then intervene to impose stability and its own “road map” in place of the elected Muslim Brotherhood government.

Millions of demonstrators have taken to the streets of Cairo and elsewhere in Egypt to protest against President Mohamed Morsi and to call for his resignation. Several Egyptians have been killed in clashes with pro-Morsi demonstrators, and Morsi’s party’s headquarters have been attacked by anti-Morsi activists.

The Obama administration and Ambassador Anne Patterson have been targets of outrage by demonstrators, given the perception that U.S. President Barack Obama supports the Muslim Brotherhood regime, and the discouragement given by Patterson to the protests, who said her government was “highly skeptical” of them.
