During a CNN interview on Wednesday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) claimed she could see Iran across the Persian Gulf when she visited Bahrain.

“I’ve been to the region, I’ve been to Bahrain and looked right across the Persian Gulf to Iran. Everything is very close there,” she claimed.

At their closest points, Bahrain is still over 120 miles away from Iran, far exceeding the distances observed by the naked eye under normal conditions. This makes Pelosi’s claim demonstrably false, barring superhuman abilities.

On Wednesday,CNN’s New Day anchors asked Pelosi what she was told about Iran’s seizure of two American riverine boats and their crew, resulting in 10 American sailors being kept hostage during President Obama’s State of The Union Address Tuesday night.

After declaring she could see Iran “right across” the Persian Gulf from Bahrain, Pelosi announced she had not been “fully briefed” yet, according to a CNN transcript.

The perception early certainly from the right side of the aisle was this is the president’s weakness. This is Iran humiliating the United States once again,” said CNN anchor Chris Cuomo.

Pelosi responded, “That’s exactly the opposite. This is proof that building a diplomatic relationship with Iran at least in terms of the nuclear treaty has served us well in resolving this so quickly.”

“How so?” Cuomo asked. “You could look at it and say they took your sailors, they held them. No respect. You are weak.”

“You could make the case, but the fact is they are free. They’re back. It happened quickly. And I think the diplomacy involved in the treaty and the fact that the implementation day is imminent all weighed in to make this something that was resolved as quickly as possible,” Pelosi answered.

Later in the interview, the House Minority Leader opined that the $150 billion dollars in frozen assets set to be unloaded to Iran is “their money.”

Pelosi did not appear concerned with Cuomo’s suggestion that they could “do bad things” with these new funds.

She said, “The fact is the biggest threat to all of us is that Iran would have a nuclear weapon. We have taken them off that course. How much is that worth of their own money?”
