Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 181,000 migrants who crossed the southwest border from Mexico in April. The apprehensions mark the third consecutive month of increased apprehensions following a brief decline in January.

Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 37,000 migrants in April, a source reports. This more than doubles the apprehensions in March and exceeds the previous two months combined.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ claim that the border is not open is directly contradicted by the crossing of nearly 2,000 Venezuelan migrants per day into Brownsville, Texas.  The impact of this newest migrant surge along the Texas border is easily viewed from the banks of the Rio Grande and the downtown streets of Brownsville.

A Texas Department of Public Safety official told Breitbart Texas that Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents took nearly 21,000 Venezuelan migrants into custody during a 12-day period. The spokesman compared the current Venezuelan migrant surge to that of the 2021 Haitian migrant crisis in Del Rio, Texas. During the 2021 crisis, nearly 20,000 Haitian migrants crossed into Del Rio from Mexico during a 17-day period.

As thunderstorms struck the border region, nearly 2,000 migrants crossed the Rio Grande from Matamoros, Mexico hoping to gain release as the end of the COVID-19 Title 42 authority nears. Braving the heavy downpour on Thursday, Border Patrol agents and local authorities struggled to move the mostly Venezuelan migrants out of the weather.

Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents began using a new Mobile Intake Application to speed the collection of migrants’ data as the number of apprehensions increase ahead of the expected end of Title 42. The Brownsville Station reports more than a thousand migrants being apprehended on a daily basis in recent days.

Mexican immigration agents sat around a nearby migrant camp and watched as thousands of migrants crossed into Texas. The migrants used inflatable mattresses and makeshift rafts to cross the Rio Grande.

Swanton Sector Border Patrol agents rescued a woman and her six-year-old daughter after they risked hypothermia to illegally cross the border from Canada into New York last week. The agents found the mother and child as they wandered lost in the woods near Ft. Covington, New York, at about 2 a.m.

The Border Patrol conducted a multi-agency water safety exercise along the southern edge of South Padre Island to address the dangers posed to migrants. Agents trained to rescue migrants attempting to enter the U.S. via the Texas Gulf Coast. Monday’s exercise involved CBP Air and Marine units; Rio Grande Valley Sector’s Border, Search, Trauma, and Rescue Team (BORSTAR); and the United States Coast Guard.

Swanton Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended more migrants so far this fiscal year than the previous four years combined. During the first seven months of the fiscal year, agents apprehended more than 3,000 migrants.

Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents teamed up with CBP Air and Marine Operations agents in a helicopter to rescue a migrant woman found in distress. The rescue took place in the Huachuca Mountains near the Arizona border with Mexico.

Most believe the federal government — not individual states — has the greatest responsibility to secure the border, a Convention of States Action/Trafalgar Group survey released this week found. 

Tucson Sector Border Patrol officials warned the increasing number of migrants crossing the border of the dangers they face as desert temperatures approach 100 degrees. The sector reports a large increase in the number of migrant apprehensions this year, including a near-400 percent increase in migrant families.

Border Patrol agents apprehended nearly 650,000 migrants during the first six months of the current fiscal year in the five Texas-based sectors. This is up from the record-shattering pace set last year when agents apprehended nearly 627,000 migrants who crossed the border between ports of entry.

El Paso Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 10,000 migrants who crossed the border between ports of entry during the past week. The spike follows a short downturn in migrant crossings as border officials prepare for the end of Title 42.

A Mexican man, illegally present in the United States, pleaded guilty in federal court to smuggling other Mexican migrants from Canada into New York. He also pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm.

A source within U.S. Customs and Border Protection revealed to Breitbart Texas that the number of “special interest” migrants encountered by Border Patrol agents during Fiscal Year 2023 is rapidly rising. Records show migrant apprehensions this year of those from countries designated as “special interest” countries more than doubled when compared to the previous year.

Border Patrol agents in the Swanton Sector apprehended approximately 700 migrants who crossed the Canadian border into the U.S. in March. The record-shattering migrant apprehensions in March represent a more than 1000 percent increase over the previous year when agents apprehended 61 migrants.

A large group of migrants found themselves stranded on an island in the Rio Grande when rising water levels and swift currents made their river crossing nearly impossible. Border Patrol agents eventually rescued the group of 141 migrants Sunday more than 20 miles south of Eagle Pass.  A Texas rancher captured video of the group of migrants hidden by trees and thick Carrizo cane on the island before the Border Patrol arrived on the scene.

Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents found a group of 38 camouflage-wearing migrants with the assistance of a CBP Air and Marine Operations helicopter aircrew about 19 miles north of Mexico. The group is part of the approximately 33,000 migrants apprehended in March by Tucson Sector agents.

A Border Patrol report reviewed by Breitbart Texas shows that more than 400,000 migrants are classified as known got-aways during the first six months of Fiscal Year 2023. The report shows more than 60,000 got-aways in March.

The short-term decrease in migrant apprehensions that followed the new Biden administration immigration policy changes came to an abrupt ending in March when agents apprehended more than 161,000 migrants along the southwest border with Mexico. The nearly 25 percent jump in March follows two months where agents averaged just under 129,000 migrant apprehensions.

Law enforcement authorities thwarted a human smuggler’s attempt to transport more than 20 migrants away from the Texas border region in a utility bucket truck. The incident began early Saturday morning near La Gloria, Texas, a small community thirty miles from the Rio Grande. The vehicle burst into flames on a private ranch after crashing through a fence and coming to a rest in tall brush.

An El Paso Sector Border Patrol official reports the number of migrant apprehensions is increasing for the second-straight month. The trend reverses a sharp decline in January.

Operations at Key West International Airport in Florida came to a halt briefly on Saturday morning when two Cuban migrants crash-landed a motorized ultralight aircraft on the runway. Miami Sector Border Patrol agents responded and took the two Cuban nationals into custody.

Del Rio Sector Border Patrol officials report just over 10,000 known border crossers during a seven-day period ending on March 18. The known border crossers include more than 5,500 migrant apprehensions and 4,400 known got-aways.

Border Patrol officials report the increasing use of technology assists agents in being more effective during regular operations. The assets allow agents to be directed to specific incidents taking place along the border.

Border Patrol agents apprehended nearly 5,000 Chinese migrants who crossed between ports of entry during the first five and one-half months. The apprehensions so far this fiscal year exceed the total apprehension of Chinese migrants during the past three fiscal years combined.

Border Patrol agents apprehended more than one million migrants so far this fiscal year who crossed the border between ports of entry, according to a border sector chief. This puts the migrant apprehensions over the one million mark before the midway point of the year which began on October 1, 2022.

Border Patrol agents along the Mexican and Canadian borders apprehended 70 migrants who crossed between ports of entry so far this fiscal year. This compares to the record-shattering apprehensions last year of 98 migrants on the FBI’s list for the entire FY22. The five-month total also exceeds all four years of the Trump administration combined.

A Laredo Sector Border Patrol EMT saved the lives of two migrant women who were abandoned by human smugglers and left to die. The agent had to be airlifted to the migrants’ location to provide assistance.

A federal court in Del Rio, Texas, sentenced an Ecuadorian national on Wednesday to 84 months in prison and five years of supervised release for possession of child sexual abuse materials. The sentencing of the 27-year-old migrant from Cuenca Provincia, Azuay, Ecuador follows a July 2021 bench trial where the court found him guilty of possessing a large trove of pornographic images involving child sexual abuse.

Migrant apprehensions along the southwest border with Mexico in February remained at about the same level as January. The Biden Administration touts the reduction in apprehensions in January and February, but the numbers are still 32 percent higher than in February 2021 — President Joe Biden’s first full month in office.

Texas Department of Public Safety Special Operations Group and Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended nearly 50 migrants hiding in rail cars carrying vehicles. During the search, law enforcement officers found new Dodge trucks that “sustained varying degrees of damage” from the migrants.

Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents discovered three unaccompanied migrant children abandoned by human smugglers on the banks of the river that separates Mexico and Texas. The discoveries came in two separate incidents.
