Hasan: 'Evidence Will Clearly Show I Am the Shooter'

In his opening statement for his court martial over the 2009 Ft. Hood shooting, Maj. Nidal Hasan said “the evidence will clearly show I am the shooter.”

According to Fox News, Hasan told the court the evidence will show he was “on the wrong side, but then [he] switched sides.” The alleged shooter added: “We the Mujahideen are imperfect Muslims trying to establish the perfect religion in the land of the supreme god.”

These statements are in line with aspects of Hasan’s previous statement, which he released days before his trial began. On August 1, Fox News reported that Hasan’s writings demonstrated his belief that it is not “permissible” to prefer American democracy over Sharia law, and that Muslims should not “compromise their beliefs” to appease non-Muslims.

A handwritten note dated October 18, 2012 was among the writings Hasan released. In it he “renounces his American citizenship.”
