Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) questioned the merits of the debate about the legitimacy of sanctuary cities in California.
According to the Florida Republican, states should adhere to federal law, and if they disagree with it, there are means to change the law.
“States need to follow federal law,” he said. “I don’t know what’s so complicated about it. I don’t even know why that’s controversial. If you don’t agree with federal law, that’s why you have two senators, and in California, dozens of members of Congress. Come up here and change the law and try to change the law. But, you have to follow the law. States are not countries. They have their own jurisdiction under the 10th Amendment in our Constitution on certain matters. But something like national security and immigration — that is a federal topic, and they got to follow federal law. It’s as simple as that.”
