Exclusive: Migrant Released by Biden Admin Arrested for Texas Border Town Murder

A migrant released by the Biden administration to pursue an asylum claim was arrested by Texas Rangers as a suspect in the murder of a Houston man in Eagle Pass, Texas, on Monday. According to a source within CBP, the murder suspect, Roberto Emilio Vasquez-Santamaria, a 64-year-old Peruvian national, was released by Border Patrol to a non-government shelter in the city on May 9, 2023.

Exclusive: Biden Admin Breaks Texas Town’s All Time Record for Migrant Apprehensions

In one single day, one Border Patrol station in the small Texas border town of Eagle Pass apprehended more migrants than all ten stations in the El Paso Sector combined. According to a source within CBP, more than 1,300 migrants were apprehended on Friday in the small border town. This compares to 1,100 for eleven El Paso Border Patrol Sector stations combined. The surge quickly overwhelmed a local Border Patrol processing facility and the ability of non-government (NGO) shelters to accommodate the surge.

The United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) declared the U.S.-Mexico border the deadliest land border crossing after documenting 686 deaths and disappearances of migrants on in 2022. Tuesday’s announcement noted the toll for migrant disappearances and deaths throughout the Americas is the deadliest year on record since the IOM’s Missing Migrants Project (MMP) began.

With more than 22,000 migrants being held in custody, a source within U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the Border Patrol is being forced to cut routine patrols along the border. In some areas, highway inspection checkpoints have been closed to accommodate another increase in the number of migrant crossings. In what Border Patrol agents describe as a daily event, more than 300 mostly West African migrants walked through drainage gates in the border wall several miles west of Lukeville, Arizona. Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador criticized the actions of a Texas National Guardsman who fired at a suspected cartel gunman from across the border to save a group of migrants being attacked.
