A suspected illegal immigrant is believed to have stolen a car at gunpoint in the border city Rio Bravo, Texas before fleeing the area.

Authorities in the border city of Rio Bravo are searching for a suspected illegal immigrant believed to have stolen a car at gun point, the local TV station KGNS reported. Rio Bravo is a city on the banks of the Rio Grande not far from Laredo, Texas.

The manhunt resulted in a local school being placed on lockdown. According to KGNS, the man is described as having tattoos on his arms  and face and wearing a white shits and blue jeans.

The area where the carjacking took place is immediately north of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, a city long considered to be the stronghold of the Los Zetas drug cartel. The carjacking comes just a week after a man was able to illegally cross from Laredo into Nuevo Laredo where he was shot at multiple times. The man was struck by at least one bullet but was able to swim back to the U.S. side of the border and seek medical attention before law enforcement responded to the area.

As Breitbart Texas has been reporting, Nuevo Laredo has been one of the areas that two rival factions of the Los Zetas cartel have been fighting over. The ongoing battle between the rival factions have resulted in a dramatic escalation in violence including gun battles, kidnappings, beheadings and other gory executions.
