Oct. 8 (UPI) — An armed man was shot and killed by security Thursday after pulling out a gun in the federal courthouse in Nashville, local police said.
The man, around 40 years old and from outside Tennessee, entered the lobby of the Fred D. Thompson U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building at around 9:30 a.m. local time, Metro Nashville Police Department spokesperson Don Aaron told reporters.
After the man’s gun did not fire, he pulled a knife before courthouse security shot him.
Aaron said the man was pronounced dead later at a nearby hospital.
The gunman has not been identified.
Aaron said the gunman’s vehicle nearby was searched, but nothing “threatening” was found.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will lead the investigation into the incident, Aaron added.
