Cartel Gunmen Ambush Mexican Border State Cops near Texas

Gunmen with the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas wounded two Mexican police officers during an ambush-style attack. The attack is the third of its kind since Thursday, as police and military forces attempt to hold back the CDN-Los Zetas from setting up operations in Coahuila. The CDN-Los Zetas is one of six Mexican cartels designated as foreign terrorist organizations by the U.S. government.

Cartel Gunmen Ambush Mexican Soldiers near Texas Border

The Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas carried out two ambush-style attacks on Mexican military forces just south of the Texas border. In one of those attacks, cartel gunmen allegedly tried to kidnap two soldiers. The CDN-Los Zetas is one of six Mexican cartels designated as foreign terrorist groups by the U.S. government.

U.S. Treasury Sanctioned Los Zetas Rapper, Other Cartel Operators

The U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctioned three top Los Zetas leaders, as well as a recording artist who not only praised them in his songs but was also allegedly using the music business to launder funds for the criminal organization. One of the newly sanctioned leaders is a former Tamaulipas state police officer who secretly worked as a cartel boss while carrying a badge.

Gunmen from the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas carried out a large-scale attack on a rival group of gunmen near a small rural community in the Mexican border state of Nuevo Leon. The fighting went on for over an hour, involving several armored vehicles, high-powered weapons, and explosives. By the time authorities responded, the gunmen had fled, taking at least five bodies of fallen gunmen but leaving several burned-out armored trucks.

The mass closing of almost 200 stores comes as the Tamaulipas government remains impotent against the various drug cartels that rule over the state.

After days of not hearing from their loved one, family members identified the body of a teenager who had just turned 17. The teen was found after several days spent in a city morgue following a shootout with authorities in the Mexican border state of Coahuila. The teen was one of two gunmen killed when a large number of gunmen tried to enter the region.

Mexican authorities are trying to take credit for rescuing 31 migrants that the Gul Carte kidnapped last weekend. In reality, the criminal organization dropped them off at a shopping center so authorities could find them. The “rescue” follows days of negative press at the national level in Mexico, causing tension and pressure within the administration of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

A large-scale raid by Mexican authorities prompted U.S. consular officials to issue a shelter-in-place notice warning the public of possible blockades and shootouts in the border city of Nuevo Laredo. While the governor in the Mexican border state of Tamaulipas claims his state is safe, large-scale shootouts involving cartel paramilitary forces and Mexican authorities continue to spread terror among locals. Due to the intensity of one of those shootouts in the border city of Nuevo Laredo, the city’s mayor was forced to send out social media warnings asking the public to shelter in place. Surprisingly, the U.S. Consulate in Nuevo Laredo, which had been diligent in issuing warnings of shootouts in the city, remained silent during the clashes.
