Britain to Double Afghanistan Drone Fleet

Britain will double the number of remote-controlled RAF drones in operation over Afghanistan to 10, a Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said Monday.

The five new Reaper drones, to be controlled by pilots based at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire, are expected to be in service alongside the existing fleet and ready to target suspected insurgents in Helmand within six weeks.

Britain’s existing five Reaper drones will continue to be operated from Creech air force base in Nevada, United States.
