A migrant woman from Guatemala reportedly abandoned her son on the Texas side of the Rio Grande and returned to Mexico. Border Patrol agents found the child with a group of 13 migrants, Laredo Sector officials reported.

According to a law enforcement source within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a group of more than 100 migrants was encountered entering a remote area between Del Rio and Eagle Pass, Texas. The area is patrolled by Border Patrol agents from the Brackettville Station. They have not seen groups this large in recent times.

Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents continue to apprehend migrants from a multitude of nations who cross the border illegally from Mexico into Texas. Recent apprehensions include migrants from what Border Patrol classifies as “special interest” nations including East African, Middle Eastern, and Asian nations.

Border Patrol agents in Del Rio apprehended more than 250 migrants crossing the Rio Grande in a single group. The group, according to a source within Customs and Border Protection (CBP) crossed the river into the United States on Sunday near the Del Rio International Bridge where more than 15,000 mostly Haitian migrants were held in a makeshift detention camp in September.

President Joe Biden’s pro-migration border chief reversed a short-lived pro-enforcement policy in August shortly before roughly 30,000 Haitian migrants converged on the border crossing at Del Rio, Texas, according to a Wall Street Journal report. 

Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 230 migrants in a series of interdicted human smuggling incidents near the Texas-Mexico border. The apprehensions took place since last Friday in 39 highway smuggling incidents.

The Times’ correction states the original version of the article “overstated what is known about the behavior of some Border Patrol agents on horseback.”

An Associated Press video released over the weekend shows a new angle on the incident involving a Del Rio Sector Horse Patrol Unit’s encounter with Haitian migrants. The video angle shows the agents did not strike the migrants. Instead, they used horses to turn back the migrants attempting to cross the Rio Grande.

The photographer who witnessed the incident where horseback-mounted Border Patrol agents attempted to control Haitian migrants crossing the Rio Grande last week said he never saw agents whipping anyone. His photographs led to unfounded claims from many officials including President Joe Biden that agents were whipping or “strapping” the migrants with whips.

DEL RIO, Texas — Border Patrol officials cleared the last remaining migrants on Friday from the infamous camp under the Del Rio International Bridge. At one point earlier this week, the Biden administration detained as many as 15,000 mostly Haitian migrants in squalid conditions under the bridge. Since then, officials moved the migrants to other detention facilities, to Haiti on Title 42 repatriation flights, allowed some to self-deport to Mexico, or released some into the United States with notices to report to an immigration office for expedited removal hearings.

The Chief of the United States Border Patrol, Raul Ortiz, told reporters the thousands of migrants gathered at the makeshift camp in Del Rio, Texas, will be removed to their country of origin.  His comments came during a press conference near the scene where more than 12,000 mostly Haitian migrants are being held.
