Students interviewed on the campus of the University of Florida appeared to overwhelmingly support racial diversity quotas in college admissions and hiring for the workplace — but when asked if they support diversity quotas in college football, the students suddenly disagreed. One student pointed out “just let the skill shine, and whoever’s the best player deserves to be on the team.”

Ivy League Professor Blasts ‘Racist’ Low Expectations of Black Kids in Education — ‘They Patronize Us, Presume We Can’t Perform’

Glenn Loury, a Brown University economics professor and host of the video blog The Glenn Show, criticized the need for affirmative action policies in education during the current era. Speaking at Malibu’s Pepperdine University School of Public Policy earlier this month, he explained black students do poorly on tests when they “don’t know the material” and not due to biases against them, urging educators to develop potential instead of lowering standards.

Appeals Court Upholds Harvard’s Affirmative Action Practices

An Appeals Court panel upheld Harvard University’s controversial affirmative action policy this week. The policy had previously been challenged by a group called Students for Fair Admissions, which alleged that Harvard discriminates against Asian-American applicants during its admissions process. Some analysts believe that the case will be appealed all the way to the Supreme Court.

Department of Education Investigates U. of Pittsburgh over Treatment of Prof that Criticized Affirmative Action

The Department of Education announced this week that it is investigating the University of Pittsburgh over its treatment of Professor Norman Wang, who was demoted from his position at the university hospital after he criticized affirmative action. The Department of Education claims that the university could lose its federal funding if it continues to violate Title VI by discriminating against applicants during its admissions process.
