Cartel gunmen in the border state of Tamaulipas continue to attack tractor-trailers carrying diesel and other fuel products with complete impunity. At the same time, government officials deny the raging cartel violence in the region.
Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador claimed that his government has been protecting truckers for a long time in the border state of Tamaulipas and that they are safe. The comment comes just days after the Gulf Cartel carjacked more than 15 tractor-trailers and forced the drivers to dump the fuel they were carrying for not having paid protection.

Approximately 200 villagers kidnapped and assaulted a group of Mexican soldiers after a raid aimed at arresting fuel thieves. The violence follows days of unrest in Mexico after federal authorities shut down the country’s oil pipelines in an effort to target fuel thieves.
