Texas’ First Screwworm-Infected Calf Fully Recovers

The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins, is traveling across Texas to highlight progress in the battle against the New World Screwworm. Rollins visited the Zavala County Ranch where the first case of the flesh-eating parasite was discovered and highlighted the full recovery of case one after nine days of treatment.

Flesh-Eating Screwworm Found in Texas, Infected Calf Detected Near Border

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed the detection of New World Screwworm larvae in a calf less than 50 miles inland from the Texas-Mexico border. The flesh-eating screwworm maggots were found in the umbilical area of a 3-week-old calf in Zavala County, Texas.

55 Illegal Aliens Busted in ICE Raid on Alabama Cockfight

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement teamed up with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and other law enforcement partners to execute search warrants in Alabama related to illegal game fighting. The operation netted the arrest of 55 illegal aliens and five United States citizens engaged in the illegal cockfighting scheme.
