Re: Editing History
There's an old bit of cynical wisdom that any prosecutor can convict a guilty man; only an outstanding prosecutor can convict an innocent one.
Regarding the egregious Lawrence O'Donnell, who went on TV with a promoted spot to claim that you shouldn't believe your lying eyes: What's a bit sobering is the fact that O'Donnell will be rewarded for his behavior.
When it comes to hateful hyperpartisans-- look, anyone can tell you the truth. The truth is easy. An honest man spends no time figuring out which lies he's told which people.
It takes a special kind of person -- a real quality hire by Leftism, Inc., a real asset -- to spin out a ridiculous lie and keep a straight face throughout it.
The truth is easy; it's the lies that have to be carefully crafted and it's the lies that take an actor's commitment to "creating a reality" to achieve. And Lawrence O'Donnell will be rewarded for his efforts.
And Lawrence O'Donnell was obviously quite pleased with his small and nasty contribution, as he usually is.
Our current politics, particularly on the left -- a hyperpolarized environment causes many to do this, including on the right; but it's on the left where this is in full, vicious bloom -- is sociopathic. Sociopaths are rewarded; sociopaths smirk in arrogant contentment to be pushing a good lie out to people who are too stupid to make up their own good lies, and so need Television Personalities to make them up for them.
We're not in good place.
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
But many people will be star-struck to see Lawrence O'Donnell out on the town, and will offer to buy him a drink for his dubious services.
