DEL RIO, Texas — Mayor Bruno Lozano told reporters Thursday that a separate economy has developed under the border bridge where migrants and likely citizens of Mexico are carrying goods into the camp thanks to regular river crossings to and from Ciudad Acuna. The growing population of migrants and the strain on resources could mean migrants will spend weeks in the camp before transferring to an indoor detention facility, according to the mayor.

DEL RIO, Texas — Citing “special security reasons,” the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) forbidding any drone flights over and around the Del Rio International Bridge. The ruling prohibits news coverage of the area where more than 11,000 mostly Haitian migrants are being held in a makeshift camp under the bridge.

A law enforcement source within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) tells Breitbart Texas that the unfolding Haitian migrant crisis is forcing the agency to shut down normal operations at all inland Del Rio Sector Border Patrol highway checkpoints. Staffing typically reserved for inspecting thousands of vehicles daily will be diverted to assist with the care, transport, and processing of 10,000 mostly Haitian migrants currently detained under the Del Rio International Bridge.

Feds Ask Texas to Help with Del Rio Bridge Detention Camp Crisis

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials requested help from Texas officials to stem the growing humanitarian crisis in Del Rio where more than 9,000 migrants are detained under a bridge. Texas Governor Greg Abbott responded by sending additional DPS troopers and National Guard units to “shut down six ports of entry” and “stop the caravans from overrunning our state.”

The head count now stands at 9,000, according to a source within Customs and Border Protection.

The camp, as of Wednesday, houses more than 4,000 mostly Haitian migrants. The site is used as a temporary detention area due to facility overcrowding in the area. The location is expected to swell to 5,000 inhabitants by the end of the day.
