DHS Extends Ban on Legal Nonessential Land Border Crossings

The Department of Homeland Security announced on Friday an extension of the non-essential travel ban at land border ports along the U.S./Mexico and U.S./Canada borders. The ban, now in place for over 18 months, prohibits nonimmigrant visa holders from entering the United States for recreational travel, shopping, or visiting relatives.

Trafficked Migrants Released in Texas Panhandle After Feds Refused Custody, Says Sheriff

For a second time in as many days, Hutchinson County Sheriff Blaik Kemp and his deputies were forced to release migrants after federal officials refused to take them into custody. Sheriff’s office officials released the migrants, 24 in all, after Kemp exhausted all efforts to get assistance from federal agencies. Deputies arrested two suspects and charged them with Trafficking of Persons among other charges.

West Texas Human Smuggler Car Chase Ends with Fiery Crash in Border City

On Monday, Border Patrol Agents in Laredo, Texas, received a report of suspicious activity involving a gray Dodge sedan south of the city limits. After locating and attempting to stop the vehicle, a pursuit involving multiple law enforcement agencies ensued. The driver of the suspicious vehicle lost control and struck another, ending in a fiery rollover crash.

Twice Deported Sex Offender Charged with Child Rape in Tennessee

A previously deported Mexican national is in a Tennessee county jail awaiting charges related to the alleged rape of a child. Immigration officers reportedly deported the subject twice following violent crimes including charges for drugs, domestic assault, and molestation of a child.
