Federal Prosecutors Charge Migrants for Increasing Assaults Against Border Patrol Agents

Federal prosecutors filed charges against 25-year-old Ricardo Prieto-Simental, a Mexican national accused of biting and attacking a Border Patrol agent near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, in September. On Wednesday, the Department of Justice announced the filing of charges against Prieto-Simental and the prosecution of several other migrants for assault on U.S. Border Patrol agents in other recent incidents in the Border Patrol’s El Paso Sector.

Migrant Punches, Bites Border Patrol Agent’s Face in New Mexico

A Border Patrol agent became the victim of a frightening assault near Sunland Park, New Mexico, as he attempted to apprehend a migrant for crossing the border alongside several others. The migrant punched and bit the Border Patrol agent as he was being led to a transport vehicle on Thursday.

The court vacated the conviction of Heraclio Osorio-Arellanes four years after the district court in Arizona convicted him of the December 14, 2010, murder of Agent Terry.

118 Haitian Migrants Land on Florida Beach

A sailboat reached the shores of Key West, Florida, just before daybreak on Wednesday. In the early morning darkness, 118 Haitian migrants disembarked and made a break for the shoreline, according to the Border Patrol.

Border Patrol Reports 2,600 Migrant Apprehensions per Day — Just in 3 Sectors

Border Patrol chiefs in three sectors of the southwest border with Mexico report a daily apprehension rate of more than 2,600 per day during their most recent weekly recaps. The reports from these three of the nine southwest border sectors exceed President Joe Biden’s new executive order imposing a cap of 2,500 migrants per day on a seven-day average.
