Venezuelan Migrant Apprehensions Surge in All Southwest Border Sectors

Border Patrol agents are arresting large numbers of Venezuelan migrants at a greater frequency than in past years. The large, mostly Venezuelan migrant groups that at one time almost exclusively entered through the Del Rio, Texas, are now spreading across the southwest border from San Diego, California, to Brownsville, Texas. The groups of predominantly Venezuelans are even crossing into the most remote regions of the border in West Texas.

Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents continue to apprehend migrants from a multitude of nations who cross the border illegally from Mexico into Texas. Recent apprehensions include migrants from what Border Patrol classifies as “special interest” nations including East African, Middle Eastern, and Asian nations.

Smugglers Abandon Small Migrant Child at Border in West Texas

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found a small migrant child who human smugglers abandoned after putting him on the international border crossing from Mexico. The smugglers moved the child across the international boundary mark on the Paso Del Norte border crossing and instructed him to walk north.

According to a source within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Border Patrol apprehended more than 200,000 migrants since October 1, 2021, which marked the beginning of Fiscal Year 2022.
