Mexican authorities are sending 100 soldiers and helicopters crews to patrol one of the busiest highway corridors in the border state of Tamaulipas. The region is a haven for cartel gunmen.

A group of Los Zetas gunmen riding in armored trucks while carrying .50 caliber rifles, machine guns, and explosives chased a squad of Nuevo Leon police officers out of the cartel’s territory. The police briefly entered the border city of Nuevo Laredo in Tamaulipas. State officials are trying to downplay the attack claiming that Los Zetas did not use grenade launchers or RGP’s, despite multiple law enforcement sources confirming the use of explosive devices.

A territorial expansion by the Cartel Del Noreste (CDN) faction of Los Zetas throughout the border state of  Nuevo Leon is now being challenged by two small independent drug gangs. The gangs are fighting to hold on to their territories in key municipalities in the Monterrey Metropolitan area. Breitbart News obtained exclusive access to police and military intelligence identifying the leaders of those gangs and their areas of influence.

A Mexican woman has been sent to prison for her role in the kidnapping of two U.S. citizens in Texas who were then taken to Mexico for ransom.
