OSAKA, Oct. 21 (AP) - (Kyodo)—Prosecutors on Wednesday appealed to the Supreme Court an Osaka High Court ruling acquitting the developer of the widely used Winny file-sharing software of abetting illegal copying of movies, games and other files over the Internet, they said.

The high court overturned the conviction of Isamu Kaneko, a 39-year- old former University of Tokyo researcher who published the peer-to- peer software, on Oct. 8, determining that publication of the software was not chiefly intended to encourage copyright violations.

On the Osaka prosecutors' appeal to the Supreme Court, Kaneko said, "It's regrettable, but I will secure a not guilty verdict again at the top court."
