A Japanese man seriously injured in a fire at an indoor shooting range in the South Korean city of Busan earlier this month died Sunday morning, local hospital officials said, bringing the death toll in the incident to 12, including eight Japanese.

According to the hospital in Busan, Kazunobu Nakao, 37, died around 5:20 a.m. as his condition suddenly turned worse while being treated in a coma in an intensive care unit with some 90 percent of his body burned in the Nov. 14 fire.

A tourist from Unzen, Nagasaki Prefecture, Nakao had until then been stable after skin-transplant surgery and other operations, the hospital said.

He was initially thought to have died in the blaze, which swept through the shooting range on the second floor of a five-story building, but was found later to have survived and been hospitalized.

He was part of a nine-member group of former schoolmates in Unzen who were visiting the city, a popular destination for Japanese tourists.

Masaru Kasahara, another 37-year-old from Unzen, two other Japanese and one Korean remain hospitalized for severe burns.
